President’s Address – Sydneigh’s Cancellation

It has been a tragic few days for fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic across Australia. Sydneigh, which was planned to be Australia’s second pony convention, met an abrupt end just under a fortnight before it was slated to happen. In the wake of this news, many Australians – along with some making the migration from abroad – have been left to deal with travel plans for a convention that was sadly not meant to be.

My thoughts go out to all of Sydneigh’s attendees and traders, who faithfully invested their money and efforts into the convention. We hope that the Sydneigh management board have been working tirelessly to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for those who deserve compensation.

In light of this misfortune, we would like to reassure our customers that AusCons Incorporated, and PonyCon AU by extension, continues to run financially solvent, and with the best financial interests of our customers and clients in mind. Those looking to verify our financial situation are free to do so on the AusCons website under the Releases section.

We also would like to make it clear that the management team behind Sydneigh has no affiliation with that of AusCons Incorporated. Sydneigh’s management team was grounded on grassroots ambition much like our convention, although their relative lack of experience in the context of event planning was what led, at least in part, to their unfortunate demise. We sincerely hope that the problems that have transpired do not reflect badly on PonyCon AU, let alone other indie conventions in Australia.

Our team will continue to strive to bring Australia another amazing PonyCon AU next year. However, our success into the future is dependent on your continual support for the convention, which we need as much as ever. Public appetite for investing in another pony convention is understandably low, but we can only survive as a convention on your trust in us.

We will be opening for ticket sales and traders applications in the coming weeks. Through your continued faith and support in PonyCon AU, you are bringing the Australian MLP community one step closer to an amazing and unforgettable weekend.

I hope you’re on-board to join us.

Julian Blair
Executive Director and Head of Finance
AusCons Incorporated

Regarding Sydneigh

I’m sure by now you have all heard the news about Sydneigh’s cancellation. While we were not involved in the organisation of the event, we are very sorry to hear about all the troubles that this has caused for the attendees. We know a lot of Australians were invested in Sydeneigh, both financially and emotionally, and we hope that you will be able to recoup some of your losses.

We understand this could cause some concern regarding our event next year. We would like to reassure everybody that we are still on schedule to put on a great con like we have for the past two years. We’ve already signed our venue contract and are currently in negotiations with our special guests. PonyCon AU is in no financial trouble at all. If you’re interested, we post our end of year financial records on our parent website

We were originally going to wait until Sydneigh was wrapped up to post information on our own ticket packages and prices to avoid overburdening the community. Now that Sydneigh is no longer going ahead, you can expect to see that information in the next week or two.

We’re happy to answer any questions you might have at this time about our con. We understand that this is a turbulent and troubling time for many of you, and we want to do our best to put any worries you have to rest.

Venue Announcement

The wait is over and your patience has been well-rewarded. It’s time to announce our stunning new venue for Ponycon AU: Seaponies Paradise!

The event will be taking place at the beautiful Outrigger Hotel right on the beachfront of Surfer’s Paradise. We’ll be hosting the con itself inside the hotel’s expansive conference facilities. It’s only a one minute walk from the beach, one block away from local entertainment and has access to a pool area, tennis courts and a number of other facilities available to all who stay at the hotel.

Thanks to the kind people at the Outrigger, we’ve got a discount to share with all of our attendees. Promotional code PONYCON will get you a discount on your room when you make your booking. Follow this link to check out the various prices for the weekend of the 21st-22nd February 2015.
